How clearly can you really see?

Good vision depends on more than just the right prescription

Having the correct lens power is only the starting point for clear, comfortable vision. The quality of your lenses — and how well they suit your daily activities, has a major impact on how well you see. Specialist lens manufacturers, such as ZEISS have Office lenses for computer work or DriveSafe lenses for driving. These can dramatically improve clarity when you need it most. Just as important is how accurately your lenses are fitted. Poorly centred lenses or an ill-fitting frame can cause blur, eye strain and headaches. With precise measurements, high-quality lenses and the right design for your lifestyle, you’ll experience sharper, more relaxed vision every day.

We can supply lenses to satisfy all your visual requirements

We can advise on lenses for work, driving, sport and sun

Whether for work, home, driving, sport, or screen use, we offer precisely tailored options—including single vision, multifocal/progressive, ultra‑thin and lightweight materials, anti‑reflection and blue‑light coatings, sun and prescription tints, and sport-specific designs. Our experienced dispensing practitioners will guide you to the ideal solution, no matter how simple or complex your visual requirements.

Do you suffer blurred vision or eye strain?

If the optical centres of your lenses are mis-aligned with your eyes, you can experience blur, eyestrain or double vision. Precise lens centration is essential for clear, comfortable vision.

In some cases, we tailor lenses not only to correct short‑ or long‑sight but also deliberately decentre the optical centres to create a controlled prismatic effect, easing eyestrain during sustained computer use and when driving, and reading.

To ensure accurate centration, we use the ZEISS Visufit 1000. Its nine cameras capture the measurements needed to fit bespoke lenses, including varifocal/progressive, office/occupational, bifocal, and single vision designs.

Additional lens options to help reduce eyestrain include anti‑reflective coatings and where appropriate, tints such as blue‑light filtering ZEISS BlueGuard for VDU work.

ZEISS SmartLife lenses are a portfolio of spectacle lens designs optimised for today’s connected, on‑the‑move lifestyles. They account for frequent device use, shifting gaze, and age‑related visual needs to deliver wide, clear fields of view and smooth transitions from near to far. Benefits include reduced eye strain, fast adaptation, and all‑day visual comfort, with options for customised fitting.

Life today is fast-paced, and your customers are constantly connected to people, information and things, both on- and offline. They tend to have their eyes glued to digital devices even when they are on the move. And yet, life is about more than just screens. Constantly switching between multiple digital devices and physical surroundings can be challenging for the eyes and may lead to uncomfortable vision or eye strain. This can make even ordinary tasks feel harder, or worse – let life’s details go unnoticed. Good, comfortable vision is crucial to take on every day, confident and aware. All your customers   – from young kids and teens through to seniors  – don’t only need clear central vision but also smooth peripheral vision. This helps them to easily switch between different distances and directions as they navigate through life.

Customized tints or special coatings: Our experts can make your vision a reality when it comes to special coatings or customised tints.

Sport

ZEISS Sunlens' expertise in colour management gives fine-tuned vision for any sports activity, in all environments and light conditions. Whether you need lenses to wear at dusk on a golf course, or in the full sun during a fishing trip, our R&D team is constantly working on developing the perfect lenses.

Snow

Vision is especially critical when snowboarding or skiing. For this reason, ZEISS Sunlens relentlessly works on solutions for a safer ride and better visibility in the challenging altitude conditions.

Light reactive photochromic lenses

Lenses that darken in the sun

Light reactive or photochromic lenses are a great idea for anyone who doesn’t want to change their glasses in the sun as these lenses incorporate a special technology which adapts to the sun – e.g.  PhotoFusionX by ZEISS.

Now they come in a large number of different colour tints and can be made in all variations of lens types from single vision to progressive lenses

Polarised spectacle lenses

Reflected glare from surfaces such as roads, water, snow and glass can reduce visual clarity and comfort. ZEISS polarised spectacle lenses are designed to cut this glare, providing clearer, more relaxed vision in bright conditions.

By filtering intense reflected light, these lenses improve contrast and colour perception, making details easier to see. This is especially beneficial for driving and outdoor activities, where glare can be distracting or unsafe.

ZEISS polarised lenses also reduce eye strain caused by squinting in strong sunlight. Combined with full UV protection and ZEISS lens optics, they deliver reliable visual performance and comfort throughout the day.

Ideal for anyone who spends time outdoors or drives regularly, ZEISS polarised lenses help improve clarity, comfort and safety.

SPECIAL LENS COATINGS FOR OPTIMUM VISION

A pair of clear eyeglasses resting on golden sand dunes with a light blue sky in the background.

Anti-reflective & hard coatings

Lens coatings act as a protective coating for your lenses, transforming modern plastic lenses into strong everyday objects. Unfortunately, lens coatings are often not given the importance they deserve when people purchase a pair of glasses, with wearers pretty much leaving this decision up to the optician. At PWO we’ll help you find your way around the maze of coatings. After all, the choice is yours!

Benefits of an anti-reflective coating

It enables transparent, clear and unimpaired vision, makes glasses more attractive and permits uninterrupted and reflection-free vision for the wearer.

Hard coating: particularly important for plastic lenses

For plastic lenses (organic lenses) you definitely need a hard lacquer coating. While plastic lenses are easy to wear, the material used is softer and more prone to scratches than glass lenses – at least if untreated.

Premium coating designed for drivers: DriveSafe

Exceptional comfort and more safety on the road

We’ve all been there: Unpleasant glare from oncoming traffic or street lights impairing our vision. This is tiring for drivers and can even become dangerous.

A premium lens coating can help, one that’s integrated into the  ZEISS DriveSafe lenses. This reduces the subjective sensation of glare1 – e.g. from oncoming vehicles with LED or Xenon headlights – and effectively protects your lenses from both scratches and the adhesion of dirt particles.

How can you recognise the ZEISS DriveSafe coating?

The ZEISS DriveSafe coating is evident from a slightly violet residual reflection on the lens, which is barely visible and therefore not distracting.

Lens coating to protect against ‘blue light’: DuraVision® BlueProtect

Coating offers more relaxed vision in a digital world

Our visual habits have changed significantly with the daily use of smartphones, tablets, computers and modern LED lighting. As a result, many people are exposed to higher levels of blue light than ever before. High-energy blue light is widely associated with reduced visual comfort and potential long-term effects on eye health.

Light also plays an important role in regulating our body clock and sleep patterns. Strong light exposure in the evening can keep the brain alert for longer. Extended screen use may expose the eyes to increased blue light, contribute to digital eye strain and increase visual fatigue from prolonged close-up focusing.

Specially coated lenses can help filter blue light and improve comfort during digital tasks. ZEISS DuraVision® BlueProtect combines a premium lens coating with an integrated blue light filter. It is ideal for people who spend long periods indoors and experience eye fatigue under LED lighting, computer screens or TV displays. This coating is well suited for everyday wear at work and leisure.

The ultimate UV protection

All ZEISS lenses, tinted or not, offer total UV protection

Zeiss's UVProtect Technology integrates full sunglass-level UV protection (blocking harmful UV rays up to 400 nanometers) directly into their clear eyeglass lenses, providing everyday protection for eyes and eyelids against long-term damage like cataracts and macular degeneration, making clear glasses as protective as premium sunglasses

SPECIAL LENS TECHNOLOGIES

MyoCare lenses

ZEISS myopia management lenses

Of the multiple options for treating myopia in young people spectacle lenses are seen as the most comfortable treatment method.

If a child doesn't enjoy optimum vision this impedes their quality of life and sometimes their development suffers as a consequence. This can lead to learning difficulties and causes the child to fall short of their full potential

That's why ZEISS MyoCare - myopia management spectacle lenses are designed especially to manage the development of myopia in young spectacle wearers between the ages of 6 and 12 years

These lenses provide optimum vision and and can help with managing the progression of myopia as compared to standard single vision lenses.

Children should be able to have fun without any restrictions. A lens that is effective in managing myopia progression should also be comfortable, provide clear vision, and look good. This is a challenging task for lens designers, but one that ZEISS experts take to heart.

When wearing ZEISS Myopia management lenses, your child will still be able to read, play outdoors, do sports and more. Despite its intricate designs, they look like regular glasses and they provide full UV protection up to 400 nm.

MyoCare® lenses with ZEISS C.A.R.E technology

ZEISS MyoCare is our latest myopia management innovation, incorporating scientific concepts from proven research, evidence-based learnings and effective treatments.

ZEISS MyoCare and MyoCare S lenses feature patented microstructures, called Cylindrical Annular Refractive Elements (C.A.R.E.) to slow the elongation of the eyeball while delivering good, comfortable vision. MyoCare lens designs consider children’s varying ability to adapt to spectacle lenses, especially at different ages.

ZEISS Lenses with i.Scription® Technology

i.Scription®  Technology allows us to create a personal vision fingerprint of your eyes using the ZEISS  i.Profiler plus allowing ZEISS to uniquely optimise your spectacle lenses helping to reduce the effects of glare, add more brilliance and sharpen contrast.

ZEISS i.Profiler plus autorefractor, topographer & aberometer

ZEISS i.Profiler plus - allowing i.Scription

The i.Profiler Plus autorefractor utilises ZEISS i.Scription Technology which helps identify subtle vision issues that traditional eye tests may miss. This allows ZEISS to uniquely optimise your spectacle lenses for your eyes helping to reduce the effects of glare, add more brilliance and sharpen contrast.

Personalised Vision Assessment

The ZEISS i.Profiler plus is an advanced eye measurement device that goes beyond a standard sight test. In just a few seconds, it creates a detailed “map” of your eyes, measuring thousands of points to detect even the smallest irregularities that can affect your vision. This allows us to tailor your prescription more precisely, helping you achieve sharper, clearer vision—especially in low light or at night.

How does i.Scription technology work?

Offers improved vision, day and night.

i.Scription®  Technology allows us to create a personal vision ‘fingerprint’ for you using the ZEISS  i.Profiler plus during your eye examination. The resulting ‘map’ provides a template for a unique spectacle lens solution for you which results in improved vision day and night.

FAQs - Spectacle lenses

  • The most important cleaning tip for optimal vision

Although often used as a last resort, cloths or sleeves are certainly not the best solution. Clothing and fabrics often leave dust or dirt particles on the lenses, causing micro-scratches. This gradually degrades the quality of the lenses, and as a result, your vision will be affected. Scratches cannot be removed from plastic or glass lenses. Even if the defect is only cosmetic, light is scattered by the micro-scratches and irritates the eye. This often means you have to buy new lenses.

Cleaning your glasses properly – things to do

The following rule applies to both thorough cleaning of your glasses at home and quick but effective cleaning when you are outdoors: you should start by gently rubbing the surface of the lenses using a microfibre cloth or a folded lens cleaning wipe to first remove stubborn dirt particles.

    Quick cleaning – also outdoors

If you need to clean your glasses quickly, don't be tempted to use your sleeve, scarf, etc. For cleaning your lenses while you're outdoors, ZEISS lens cleaning wipes are the best solution – they're not bulky and come ready to use. Plus, they don't contain any additives.

If necessary, a simple microfiber cloth can also do the trick, but dry cloths are not always suitable, especially when it comes to removing grease. It is better to first wet the cloth with cleaning spray and then wipe the glass.

    Meticulous cleaning at home

In addition to ZEISS wet lens wipes, ZEISS lens cleaning spray combined with a microfiber cloth is an excellent solution for cleaning your lenses at home. It's as effective as thorough cleaning under running tap water, but much faster. Spray the spray onto the microfiber cloth, not onto the lenses. Rimless frames have drilled lenses, while standard frames have screw holes. Liquids entering these holes could have negative long-term effects. Therefore, it's best to apply the cleaning agent to the cleaning cloth. This ensures that your glasses won't be damaged, but that there's enough moisture to effectively remove dirt, makeup, or grease.

    Cleaning your frames

Improper care can also damage your frames. The following tips will ensure your frames stay looking like new:

    • Warm tap water and a drop of pH-neutral cleaning fluid provide good cleaning results. Always hold your glasses on the side of the frame you are cleaning. This will prevent the frame from warping or even breaking.

    • For hygiene reasons, it is also recommended to clean the sides of the frames and the nose pads from time to time. This also improves the fit of your glasses, as removing grease helps prevent slippage.

    Ultrasonic cleaner

Using ultrasonic cleaners (available online and in specialty stores) at home or at your optician is the best way to ensure a thorough and convenient cleaning. It's the gentlest and most effective way to remove dirt. It only takes two minutes to restore your lenses and frames to their previous best condition.   Important: Remember to change the water in the cleaner regularly.

And if you don't want to buy your own device, your optician will be happy to clean your glasses in their ultrasonic cleaner, ideally every six months. These days, this device is standard equipment for opticians.

  • Your glasses deserve a good home! Store them in a hard case whenever you're not wearing them. If you don't have a case with you, make sure you put them in a safe spot, with the lenses facing upwards.

  • It is also important to ensure that your glasses are not exposed to extreme heat. Temperatures of over 80 degrees centigrade can damage even the toughest lenses or frames. Plastic lenses, in particular, should not be subjected to high temperatures. This could have an adverse effect on the durability of lens coatings (the anti-reflective coating, for example). Extreme temperature fluctuations could lead to surface cracks due to the different structures of the base lens and the coating. Therefore, neither your case nor your spectacles should be left for long periods of time in a sauna or on your car dashboard in the summer.

  • This is where  an ANTIFOG cleaner can really help. After cleaning, the spray is applied to your cleaning cloth which is then rubbed across both sides of the lenses. This prevents irritating fogging of your lenses – for up to 72 hours. There are also lens wipes which come in individual sachets that reduce fogging and can be bought from us or any good optician.

  • No. Spectacle lenses vary widely in clarity, durability, comfort and performance. Lens design, materials, coatings and how accurately they are made all affect vision. Higher-quality lenses provide sharper vision, better glare reduction, improved durability and are tailored to your prescription and lifestyle needs.

  • Yes. Thin (high-index) lenses reduce thickness and weight, making spectacles more comfortable and attractive. They also minimise edge thickness or magnification, improve cosmetic appearance and often provide better optical performance for stronger prescriptions. There are several different types of high index lenses which vary in thickness and cost.

  • I can’t seem to find a spectacle frame that fits. What can I do?

An optician with knowledge and experience can help. Professional fitting considers face shape, bridge size, lens thickness and comfort. Access to a wider range of frames, adjustable options and bespoke fitting ensures better comfort, stability and vision than choosing frames without expert guidance.

  • Yes. Many practices offer custom or bespoke frames tailored to your measurements and preferences. These provide a personalised fit, improved comfort and can accommodate specific style, material and functional requirements. Why not come and us about options and lead times.
